Hi, I'm Shelby. I finally decided to put
together my own Page since it didn't seem like Jeff or Barbara were going to get around to
it. I'm a little over
seven years
old, and when my original family moved, they didn't take me with them, so I found myself
living at the animal shelter. Some other people adopted me, but brought me back
after less than a week ,,, they said I hid too much, but it was only because I was in an
unfamiliar place and I was a little scared. Anyway, along came Barbara and I decided
to adopt her!
My full name is Shelby Katz Legan but when I first moved in, they called me a variety of
names including: Kitten Caboodle, Kitten Cat, Maach-ka (NOTE: Maach-ka is
my phonetic spelling for the Slovenian word for cat. Jeff doesn't know how
to spell it and I have enough trouble just trying to spell in English), Maach-ka Ball, and
Scooter. They've pretty much gotten all of that out of their systems
though and have
settled on Shelby, ShellBell, Kitty, Kitten, Piddy Pat or just plain Cat. During F1 season, Jeff
sometimes calls me
"Little Arrow" and tells Barbara that I'm the unofficial McLaren (some Formula 1
team) mascot. Apparently that team's cars are silver in color, and known as Silver
Arrows. I'm gray in color, and, you know, silver, gray, well, you get the
connection. Jeff gets all worked up about it so I just play along.
It must be noted, however, that since I have become the mascot, one of their
drivers has won the championship two times.
Since moving to Texas in 2003, I am
also referred to as the Mid-City Kitty. That's because we now live in what
is know as the Mid-Cities, which are the suburbs between Ft Worth and Dallas.
While we all love living in Texas, the move itself was quite an ordeal for me.
I'm not real thrilled about being in the car anyway, since it usually means I'm
going to the vet, so having to be in the car for like, 20 hours, was not my idea
of a good time. Things were going as well as they could until we spun on
some ice in Oklahoma. I still thank God that even though the car got
pretty banged up, the three of us climbed out with just a few minor bumps and
bruises. During the spin, some lukewarm coffee got spilled on me. It
didn't hurt, but in the process of licking it off, I got all hopped up on the
caffeine. I don't really remember much about that evening in the motel,
but I'm told I was bouncing back and forth between the two beds for the better
part of the night.
My favorite stuff to do includes being groomed, sleeping, laying in the sun, eating,
looking out the window, laying on crinkly paper, playing with string or feathers, and sitting on Jeff's lap. From
time-to-time I'll bat a piece of popcorn around like a hockey puck. It's no big
deal, but Jeff & Barbara really seem to get a big kick out of it, so I do it mostly to
watch them laugh. My favorite treat is Fancy Feast cat food.
Here's
what I sound like when I ask for it. This sound file has been provided
as a service to you, just in case you happen to be visiting me. If you
hear this sound, you'll know what I want. Among my least favorite stuff is going to the vet, taking
medicine and going for rides in the car. Oh, I also don't like it when J&B
have to go somewhere and leave me alone. I always make sure to put on a real
pathetic face, just to give them something to think about!
Anyway, I'm glad I'm here and glad you took the time to stop by to get to know me. I'll try and keep this page updated, that is if I can get Jeff off the computer once in a while.
I'm told that if you click here that you'll go back to the LeganMania Home Page. (I'll admit that I did get some help with this). Also, even though I unfortunately never got to meet them, you can click here to meet some guinea pigs that used to live with Jeff & Barbara back in Ohio.
